Semester at a glance...

Throughout the semester I feel that I have been able to strengthen my abilities both internally and physically. I enjoy participating in this class and love being able to spend my time with such an amazing teacher and students. I cannot believe that we are practically finished the semester! Get Fit class, is by far one of my all time favourite classes. I feel that throughout the semester I have participated in everything, to the best of my ability. I enjoyed going on all of the field trips and having those moments to bond with my friends and classmates.

Making myself a healthier person and feeling more comfortable with my body has been one of my strongest motivators and as a result, I am seeing improvements on my fitness. I believe I can run longer distances now; I even almost reached my highest beep test level.

I have had many defining moments thus far in Get Fit. All of which show how much I can push myself. I am really proud of doing fitness every single day; I feel it has made me stronger and healthier and I have noticed improvements. I do not think I have ever been so tired and sweaty after workouts in my life, it's actually really gross...

I am proud of all the accomplishments I have had in Get Fit, the journey has been one that is full of hard-work, commitment and sweat! I feel great and ecstatic about my accomplishments!

Miss Respresentation

After watching Miss Representation I realized that women are degraded much more than we actually realize. Through posters, magazines, on TV and even in music. We are surrounded by a word filled with people whom look upon women as "2nd class citizens." I am actually disgusted by the way people treat women. I was surprised by the amount of companies that do not have any or many women on their board. The way women are looked at has to change. Obviously it's not going to change if a part of a women's population is speaking up. I feel that every lady needs to say how they feel about the situation. Women should not be looked at like a prized possession. We are valuable people with pride and that needs to be distributed.

Active Learning: Testing

Me at the beginning of the beep test.
My most recent beep test I got a 9.1, I was disappointed because it was not my highest beep test which was around 10.5ish (so long ago), which is why I wanted to get to that level again. I missed the line though and knew that if that happened I had to go out, which is one of the reasons I did leave. However, it was the highest beep test I did all semester. I even had trouble breathing because I have asthma, which was another factor that affected my speed. It's nice to know that I gave it my all and was extremely tired afterwards, even though I had to leave, I pushed myself for my LAST EVER BEEP TEST!

The rest of my testing pretty much stayed the same; I haven't noticed a change in the scores for push-ups, t-test, etc. It has been a great semester of vigorous fitness and I am happy that I beat my score for this semester but at the same time I wished I got higher. Defiantly having mixed feelings about it.

I'm half way there!

I cannot believe that we are almost done the first term of semester two! Get Fit class, is by far one of my all time favourite classes. In terms of participation, the best days for me would have to have been going snow shoeing, going to Panorama dance, going to Sullivan elementary, having intervals with Mr. Pederson’s class and doing Zumba. I feel I am worked my hardest when I did the second community run (I tried and succeeded in beating my time), the pyramid (I worked at it non-stop, without a water break and finished the whole thing), and doing the hill run (did it all 10 times). I have asthma and it had been one of the main things standing in my way, I also had back surgery earlier this school year and it still hurts when I do exercises like v-sits. I always try to push myself but it is hard when your lungs are telling you to take a rest. I do not like to sit out, or stop during activities. Making myself a healthier person, feeling more comfortable with my body and toning myself for grad and the rest of my life, are the main things that get me to participate.

The best field trips that we went to were Panorama dance, snow shoeing, and Sullivan elementary. New experiences for me were snow shoeing (definitely want to do that again!) and tae kwon do. I want to go shoe showing again because I enjoyed being in the snow and outdoors while getting my exercise. I felt it was tiring but also relaxing at the same times.

I am seeing improvements on my fitness. Overall, I feel like I can run longer distances now.  On my first community run I felt more tired than I did on the second one. I also beat my time by 2 minutes, the second time around. I also run and walk during the set times for the interval pond runs and do not walk when there it is running time. I would like to continue to improve upon my beep test and get back into my range of level 10+. I would also like to further improve my time on community runs.

My most important moment defining Get Fit so far has to have been the pyramid we did at the start. It shows how much the class and I can really do. It also shows how much we can push ourselves if we set our mind to it. I am especially proud of doing fitness every single day; I feel it has made me stronger and healthier already. I do not think I have ever been so tired and sweaty after workouts in my life, which is until this class. I am also proud of being in an extracurricular dance class at school. It has pushed my abilities a little bit more and has made me feel more confident about my abilities in dance. I am proud of all the accomplishments I have had so far in Get Fit, the journey has been one that is full of hard-work, commitment and sweat (gross!)! I feel positive about my accomplishments and hope to make just as many in term 2!

The letter grade that best represents my progress in Get Fit is an A (95%), because I am fully devoted, always trying my best and I also try to talk to other classmates to encourage them. I feel like I constantly put hard-work in and am always ready to participate.

Buddy Fitness

Going to Sullivan Elementary was extremely fun for me. I love being able to teach younger students new things, either school-work (peer-tutoring) or fitness. It reminded me of when I was younger and had sports day. I found out that talking directly to the students (making eye contact), repeating phrases and demonstrating the activity beside them, worked better at the stations. We made the improvements I previously mentioned, Amanda and I always demonstrated how to do the activity with the student, and we also added a lot of cheering and high-fives to encourage the grade ones. Next time, I would change the way we split the teams up for our activity. In our activity we need to split the group into two and it seemed hard to get the students to stay in one place, especially when they all just wanted to dance. I felt proud to be a part of this day, I felt like I was a leader and role-model to the younger kids and it boosted my confidence knowing that I could help run an activity like the one my group did. Personal highlights: the boy who did not understand that high knees are done on their own and decided to do high knees while circling a baseball bat, another boy who was so intrigued in our obstacle course that he kept playing and did not realize his group left, and finally a little girl named Emma that hugged me goodbye. I really enjoyed this fieldtrip; it was nice to know that we helped make approx. 60 grade ones happy and active for at least an hour!

Interims: Get Fit (Semester 2, Term 1)

Get Fit has been helping me get in shape. I enjoy participating in our upbeat, positive class. For the past month I have attended the majority of classes. Therefore, I know that my attendance is not an issue. On that note, I also manage to bring my gym trip to every class. I demonstrate a positive attitude towards all of our fitness activities, field trips and any other class work. I am also putting my best foot forward and actively participating in all activities. I constantly encourage my friends and other classmates. I also help set up and clean up equipment when needed. That is just a small summary of the things I managed to keep up this past month. The following is the actual interim assignment. I choose to do choice C.

Healthy living means to me that I am able to eat a diet that consists of the requirements from Canada's food guide and have frequent physical activities included into my schedule. I believe that physical activity and eating well are big roles in becoming a healthy person. I feel that having a routine while growing up contributes to the physical activity one will obtain as an adult. I feel that I am pretty active. I dance and that is where I manage to get alot of my physical activity done, I also workout at home when I can or go to the gym. I try my best to include physical activity into my routine (ex. taking the stairs instead of the elevator). The benefits of the physical activities that I am registered in are they help me stay healthy and fit. Dancing and working out even help improve my mood.

In my current eating plan, I try to include the various amounts of food as I looked to Canada’s Food Guide for assistance while growing up. I believe that eating healthy throughout a person’s lifestyle is essential and has many great effects. I feel that having a healthy lifestyle should include a person’s favourite things, just in moderation. Although, sometimes I do not stick to my plan of healthy eating or follow the food guide, I try my best. As a result, I have kept the food guide on my fridge to motivate me to make healthier food decisions and make sure I am getting my daily intake.

For me, the other components I consider in healthy living would be, being confident and healthy mentally. I believe that once a person is able to be comfortable and straight forward about their goals, they can move forward and actually reach them. I do not think staying healthy is as easy as it sounds; it takes a lot of effort and dedication. That is why I think the right mind set is required.

I am able to make a lot of connections within my active learning class. I am getting to know students from different grades and I talk with almost everyone. As a result, I defiantly feel safe and comforted by my peers. I am working to create a positive environment for myself and others as I encourage my classmates to push themselves, set goals and work a little harder. I feel that I am able to help motivate some of my friends and in return, they do the same for me.

Get Fit has been and is a great class. I enjoy coming and look forward to it every day.

Field Trips: Taekwondo, Skating and Snow Shoeing!

We started going on our field trips last week, and I have to admit I enjoy them more than I expected to! Taekwondo was a great experience, although it is not what I am use to it, I managed to make the most of it. Skating was a field trip that I felt enabled me to believe in myself. I love skating but since I have not went in a while I forgot how challenging it really was. It was nice to have my friends help me and by the time I built confident, we had to leave. This is one of the reasons I really miss double blocks. The latest field trip our class went to was Snow Shoeing. Snow Shoeing was a fun, exciting and tiring experience. It was my first time going Snow Shoeing and it really set the bar high for me. Unfortunately, I discovered that you do actually get warm hiking in the snow and I was fully dressed in my snow gear. All in all, the field trips we went on were really exciting and I look forward to going on the rest of our field trips.

So you can join in on the fun, here are some photos from various field trips!
(Some pictures are stolen from either Ms. Phillips or classmates, others are my own)

I'm at the start line!

I am so excited to finally be a part of Get Fit! I am happy to be in such a great class whom I can work with to achieve our various fitness goals. I am looking forward to making my body more toned, getting fit of course and just being able to have fun while doing physical activities. I hope I will be noticing a difference both mentally and physically! I want to feel better about myself and figure out what activities can help burn those calories! My personal fitness goals would include getting higher on the beep test, a faster time on the community run, more laps during the 25 minutes run and just being able to go above and beyond in any activity we do. I expect to do a lot of fitness while having some fun class games in this course. Overall I want to become more healthy and fit!
